Riser Automation

MAC Systems Riser automation units have been designed to operate as either fixed units or portable. The units can be configured to monitor and control actuators or motors, where spindles are used to open and close the riser outlet. Each portable unit consists of a stainless steel enclosure, battery, solar panel, 4 channel board configured with two manual operation buttons for Open/Close and Stop/Calibrate. For units controlling an actuator, there is a relay board to power the actuator, and for modbus actuators, an RS485 board to read all diagnostic information from the actuator. The motor control units have a motor control module that allows all settings to be adjusted and monitored.
We have found that most clients are moving to the spindle operated risers. The reasons for this are that they are a lower priced, and also allows for easier manual opening and closing should there be a problem with the control units. With either actuators (modbus versions) or motor controlled spindles, the opening positions can be set, with adjustable current cut off limits on opening and closing.
Via the remote web based scheduling platform, programmes and schedules are created for the automated control of irrigation events. Diesel and electric pumps can be controlled and linked to programmes and schedules. Most clients use 5 to 10 portable units that are moved to bays that are being irrigated. The web interface allows users remote access to monitor the progress of the schedules, edit schedules that are running and receive alerts should problems arise.
Wetting front sensors can be integrated into the system for alerting and control.
